Check Your Mate at Ladies Night

Ladies Night doesn't always have to be karaoke to Bon Jovi. A Brooklyn chess emporium on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn introduced ladies night recently after women began asking it's owner where they could play. Christian Whitted, who owns the store, also teaches at York College in Queens, and said a number of his female students asked, so he built out the space for both them and neighborhood chess fans, reports the Brooklyn Paper.

To rent the tables for an hour, you'll have to pony up $3 a person. Or, pay $5 for a five-minute game challenging the resident masters and get beat in a matter of seconds. "I can beat an average player in 30 seconds," Whitted told the paper. So, to reword that, pay $5 for 30-seconds with a master and 4 and a half minutes spent wondering what the heck just happened.

As for the ladies, Thursday nights is when they can get free chess lessons all night long. Head over to the New York Chess and Game Shop, at 192 Flatbush Avnue in Prospect Heights anytime before 11 pm for chess, checkers, backgammon, Scrabble, Monopoly, cards, coffee, boards, and other bits of chess memorabilia.
