All-Star Fun and (Drinking) Games

If you are a Mets fan, the All-Star break couldn't come soon enough. Even in an off day comes the crushing news that after the Break the prospect of Pedro Martinez in Phillies red is all but inevitable. What are the Queens faithful to do? Drink heavily, obviously.

Black Bear Lodge (3rd Ave., between 21st and 22nd) will indulge you in this tonight with its All-Star Game Drinking Game. What better way to enjoy the inconsequentiality of it all than by getting so hopelessly drunk? You may not even remember who wins.  Black Bear hosts all the All-Star festivities tonight, complete with detailed (and inordinately complicated) instructions -- such as, if Teixeira hits a home run and you are an A's fan, drink a beer or, if Wright steals second and you hate the DH rule, take a shot -- that will surely be too blurry to read by the third inning.

This is the first year that the bar (whose sisters include the equally fine beer-pong tournament-hosting establishments Whiskey River and Bull’s Head Tavern) has hosted such an event, and based on last night's turnout for the Home Run Derby Power Hour (only about 15 people showed), it has not been able to lure its Thirsty Thursday crowd away from their sweat pants and flat screens. Those nights patrons swill $15 unlimited beers from 8-11 and then again from 11-2, meaning that for $30 you could drink unlimited Budweiser for six hours. If that doesn’t make you puke, well maybe thinking about Pedro slapping gloves with Jimmy Rollins will.

Don’t let the fact that it’s Tuesday or Bastille Day dissuade you from celebrating baseball with your fellow New Yorkers: Pay tribute to both France and your league of choice by swigging cheap booze all night.
