SNAKE EYES: Don’t miss “American Casino,” playing now at Film Forum: Leslie and Andrew Cockburn's documentary details how the perpetrators of the housing crash filled their coffers while more than a million Americans lost their homes and savings. Sobering stuff, brilliantly told. Various times.

GOOD EARTH: Wildlife scientist extraordinaire Jane Goodall pops by the Union Square Barnes & Noble with a double dose of optimism: She’ll discuss her book “Hope for Animals and Their World: How Endangered Species Are Being Rescued from the Brink,” in which she details the struggles of leading researchers and her own front-lines experience. 7PM.

TOM FOOLERY: Petty Fest 2009! A Night to Get Drunk and Celebrate the Songs Of Tom Petty is just that: a fawning fanboy homage concert featuring the likes of Nicole Atkins, The Strokes’ Fabrizio Moretti, and Josh Lattanzi of the Lemonheads, gathering to pay tipsy tribute to the all-American troubadour. Bowery Ballroom, 8PM.
