9/22: Meet Gabby Young + Pavement, Guillermo del Toro

NEWBIE: With a beehive even higher (and much redder) than Amy Winehouse’s, and a sound that seems stripped out of some sort of gypsy circus where Bjork is the ringmaster, Brit provocateuse Gabby Young brings her band, Gabby Young & Other Animals, to Joe’s Pub. Amid all the petticoats and pink bowler hats and bombastic brass backline is Young's husky voice, one of the UK’s most promising new exports. Take note. 7PM.

ENDLESS LOVE: When Pavement announced tickets were on sale for their first Central Park show, they were gone in less than two minutes, so it’s no surprise to see these reunited fellows playing a litter of concerts this week: Following up on their Williamsburg Waterfront show on Sunday, they’re playing through Friday 24 at Central Park’s Rumsey Playfield. 5:30PM.

THE HORROR: Pan’s Labyrinth mastermind Guillermo del Toro, not content to stuff your brain with nightmare-fueling images like this, is also the pen behind the bestselling book The Strain. He’ll be at the Columbus Circle Borders to present his follow-up, The Fall, wherein the vampiric virus that ate NYC threatens to take over the planet. 8PM.
