BACK TO THE FUTURE: Oh sure, 3D seems like the hottest thing now—but half a century ago, they had something even cooler than those flimsy tinted glasses. They had a technology called Illusion-O! And you needed ghost viewers to watch it! Film Forum will be handing out said accessory so you can enjoy director William Castle’s campalicious 13 Ghosts, wherein vengeful spirits haunt the new owners of a mansion—in bloodcurdling Illusion-O! 7:40PM.

THE NATIONAL: Mamady Kouyate is a musical legend in his native Guinea—he’s played with every band and helped forge the new sound born in that West African nation in the culturally vibrant ‘60s and ‘70s. Here in NYC, where he now lives, he heads up the Mandingo Ambassadors, who purvey their exhilarating blend of Afri-jazz-funk to the people every Wednesday night at Barbès. It’s time you checked them out. 10PM.

REMINDER: With the Gulf spill fresh on the mind and the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, a fundraising shout-out to beleaguered New Orleans is necessary. The Big Easy Comes to the Big Apple brings together sights, sounds and tastes of the Crescent City to benefit the Central City Artist Project, supporting artists who create works inspired by the NOLA community. Live jazz and soul food from Kelly Pickett of Boucherie provide the backdrop to art from more than 95 artists who’ve donated work to be gifted to patrons. NURTUREart, Williamsburg, 6PM.
