8/21: Ladies + Devo = Deva

A ladytribute to new wave’s trippy pioneers plays Bell House, plus “Dirty Dancing,” Bollywood style

WHIPPED: The space-shippy outfits, the robotic, jerky movements, lyrics like “before the cream sits out too long, you must whip it.” New-wave punksters Devo are such cult figures, it’s no wonder that Devo-tribute ladyband Deva is a hot ticket. The Bell House, 10:30PM. http://www.thebellhouseny.com/calendar.php

TAKE TWO: Playful Williamsburg art space MonkeyTown hosts a very special “Dirty Dancing” event: See the Patrick Swayze original screening at the same time as the surreal Bollywood remake, “Holiday.” (In case you’ve ever wondered how to say the words “baby” and “corner” in Hindu.) 7:30PM.

AGE OF AQUARIUS: Paul Mazursky’s tart 1969 satire of mores “Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice” took aim at swinging permissiveness, new-age philosophy and the growing trend of group therapy. Stars Elliott Gould and Dyan Cannon will be on hand following tonight’s screening, part of the Walter Reade’s Natalie Wood retrospective Yesterday’s Angel. 6:15PM.
