4/8: Growing Food in NYC 101, Carol Burnett Book Launch…

Join the conversation about growing produce in unlikely places (like Greenpoint's Rooftop Farms here) at the Greene Space.

ROOTS: Fritz Haeg, author of “Edible Estates: Attack on the Front Lawn,” is a hardcore evangelist for growing produce in very unlikely places--and New York City is full of them. Join him, Manhattan borough prez Scott Stringer and founders of urban farms like Greenpoint’s Rooftop Farms, in a discussion-cumbook launch hosted by WNYC’s Leonard Lopate at The Greene Space, 7-9PM.

THE END: “When You’re Strange”—amazingly, the first feature doc about the Doors—follows (via rare footage) the birth of the iconic rock band from UCLA film school (where Jim Morrison met keyboardist Ray Manzarek) all the way to arena shows teeming with Doorsheads. Bonus: Johnny Depp narrates. Director Tom DiCillo will be on hand for a Q&A. BAM, 7PM.

GRANDE DAME: Carol Burnett drops her new memoir, “This Time Together: Laughter and Reflections,” and defies you not to hail her utter comic genius and say she changed the path for women in comedy. (Oh wait—that’s us. Because we’re unapologetic Burnett-o-philes. She’ll just show up, sign the book and be perfectly pleasant.) Barnes & Noble Union Square, 7PM.
