IMAGINE: A tradition continues: A who’s who of artists gathers at the 30th Annual John Lennon Tribute to fête the late poet with a night of performances. Aimee Mann, Patti Smith, Jackson Browne, Shelby Lynn and Meshell Ndegeocello are a few names on the bill, along with event co-founder (and MAD Magazine Senior Editor) Joe Raiola. Theatre Within presents this event, benefiting the Playing For Change Foundation. At the Beacon Theatre, 8PM.
CUT HERE: Nadav Harel’s documentary The Electric Mind gets you up close and personal with the cutting edge of neurosurgery. And guess what? They know a lot less than we think they do: As one researcher notes, "Most scientific funding goes toward brain research, but we don't know the anatomy of the brain of even a mouse.” This film follows doctors and the patients who’ve signed up for guinea pig duty as they tackle the unknown (trailer here). Harel will attend the screening, part of the 34th Annual Margaret Mead Film & Video Festival at the Museum of Natural History. 6PM.
CREEPY, CRAWLY: Know thy enemy, the saying goes. Heading up tonight’s installment of the infotaining Nerd Nite series is a discussion of those most terrifying of urban pests, bedbugs--entomologist Gil Bloom will hold forth on the cruel little critters. You’ll leave fully informed, but you’ll probably want a hot shower afterwards. 9PM.
