The Courteeners played their first-ever U.S. show Tuesday at the Mercury Lounge.

The Courteeners are a British rock band performing in New York in their first U.S. tour.

Fans can see them Wednesday at Webster Hall and Thursday at Carnegie Hall.

For most band members, it's also their first visit to the Big Apple. They described the city as "fun," "exiciting" and even "tall." We presume they were talking about the buildings.

Their history also reflects New York's passion. Lead singer Liam Fray took a risk to pursue his love for music after college. Drummer Michael Campbell never played drums before, but he joined the band anyway.

Less than three years later, the band has a No. 4 album on the UK charts, as well as a song featured on "Beverly Hills 90210."
