Brooklyn Goes Steampunk

Spend your Saturday at Circus of the Steampunks - copper goggles optional

Steampunk is, suddenly, everywhere. It's an aesthetic grounded in a mix of antique style - think Victorian ruffles, aviator goggles and the like - and an H.G. Wells-ian fascination with timetravel to the future (the future as seen by an 1890s dandy, that is). What does this mean for you? Style. Steampunk style is everywhere, feels especially current as Halloween approaches, and is being feted this weekend in Carroll Gardens at Brooklyn Indie Market's "steam-themed" Grand Chrono'nauts Tea (no, we don't know what that means either).

You'll be able to shop lots of indie designers' booths packed with DIY steampunkery (skull-adorned cupcakes, hand-sewn waistcoats, jewelry depicting unsavory bones and creepy dollheads aplenty), mingle with sponsors like BUST magazine and borough newsletter BrooklynBased, and soak up sinister live entertainment (we hear there'll be a saw musician - two words: Mosh pit!). Saturday 10/25, 11AM-6PM, Brooklyn Indie Market tents, Smith St. at President St.  [BrooklynBased]
