Soho Garbage Garage's Opponents Will Sue

The Villager and Downtown Express both file stories indicating that Hudson Square/West Soho residents opposed to the Department of Sanitation's three-district garbage truck garage at the western end of Spring Street will sue to block the construction. The City Planning Commission is expected to approve the massive project in October, then send it on to the City Council. In a DE story about the evolution of Hudson Square from manufacturing district to residential hotbed, a member of the Community Sanitation Steering Committee—a group of neighbors fighting the plan—said the group is likely to sue if the council gives the garage the nod. Meanwhile, the Hudson Square property-owners' lobbyist also says a suit is in the works, telling The Villager we'd all "find out more at the press conference next week." The Ear Inn could not be reached for comment, but its stance is clear.
