Glenn Zimmerman joined News 4 New York in December of 2007 as a General Assignment Reporter covering local and national events.
Zimmerman literally blew into town, covering a windy Nor’easter on the Jersey shore for his first report. Shortly after that, he was in Times Square reporting on a small explosion that shook the area. During the Spitzer Sex Scandal, he reported from Albany in the days leading up to the transfer of State leadership. When a massive crane collapsed on to 91st Street, Zimmerman captured the emotions that the survivors experienced.
Zimmerman joined NBC4 from WXYZ –TV in Detroit where he worked for more than six years as a General Assignment Reporter. In that time he covered stories ranging from race riots in Benton Harbor, to the fireworks shooting in downtown Detroit, to the trial of Mark Unger that was a first-degree murder trial that gained national attention.
Zimmerman enjoys reporting in-depth stories. He earned a Michigan Association of Broadcasters award for a 15-minute story on a shooting spree at a convenience store told in the style of Truman Capote’s “In Cold Blood.” He was nominated for an Emmy award for reporting the story of a man who attempted to testify against a crime family, but was killed for doing the right thing.
Prior to WXYZ-TV, Zimmerman worked for WSAV-TV in Savannah, Georgia where he was honored with multiple Associated Press awards, including one for an investigative story on the overburdened court system. Also while in Savannah, Zimmerman provided around the clock coverage from the Emergency Management Shelter as Hurricane Floyd caused the largest peacetime evacuation in US history. Zimmerman began his broadcasting career at KCCO-TV in Minnesota where he covered the “500 Year Flood,” a disaster that threatened thousands of homes and lives.
A Connecticut native, Zimmerman received his undergraduate degree in International Relations from Boston University and received a Master’s Degree in Mass Communications from the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University.
Zimmerman resides in New Jersey with his wife and son.
