Pickup Truck Fatally Hits Baby Girl in Stroller: NYPD

A pickup truck making a right turn at a Queens intersection hit and killed a baby girl in her stroller Thursday night, police say. The baby's mother was pushing the stroller across 23rd Avenue in East Elmhurst when the truck turned from 94th Street and hit the stroller, police say.  Witness Reese Fluellen, who knows the mother because their children play together, says he'd said hello just seconds earlier.  "As I turn the corner, I was walking maybe 10, 15 seconds, I hear a loud crunch, I hear brakes from the truck," he said. "I hear screaming, 'You ran over my baby, You ran over my baby.'"  Fluellen immediately ran back, along with other bystanders who tried to help. The baby was unresponsive and appeared not to be breathing, and the mother was hysterical.  Clearly shaken, Fluellen said, "I have a child the exact same age. Our kids play together. Dead Woman Found Wrapped in Sheet Outside, Grandson Arrested

Police have arrested the grandson of a woman whose bludgeoned body was found wrapped in a bedsheet outside a Brooklyn home Thursday, next to a bloody 35-pound dumbbell and knife, police say.  The body of 70-year-old Joyce Spears was found in front of 1635 Union St. in Crown Heights at about 1:45 a.m. Thursday, police said. Responding officers found the dumbbell and knife outside the apartment window, then discovered a blood trail leading to the apartment on the third-floor landing of the building, police sources said.  When police tried to reach the grandson inside the apartment, he refused to let them in. Emergency Services Unit was called in and police forced their way in; neighbors say they heard a drill as officers tried to get into the apartment.  They finally got in after 6 a.m. and found blood inside the apartment, sources said.  The suspect, 32-year-old Barry James, was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder. White House, in Gamble, Demands Make-or-Break Health Vote

Abandoning negotiations, President Donald Trump demanded a make-or-break vote on health care legislation in the House, threatening to leave "Obamacare" in place and move on to other issues if Friday's vote fails. The risky move, part gamble and part threat, was presented to GOP lawmakers behind closed doors Thursday night after a long and intense day that saw a planned vote on the health care bill scrapped as the legislation remained short of votes amid cascading negotiations among conservative lawmakers, moderates and others.
