Wednesday's Child is a weekly televised feature that helps recruit adoptive families who can provide permanent and loving homes for New York City foster children.

The most recently featured child appears to the right. See the others below.

The program is part of a unique partnership between WNBC, the Freddie Mac Foundation and New York City's Administration for Children Services. The foundation provides a list of adoption resources here.

The Wednesday's Child program started in the Washington, DC metropolitan area in 1992, a partnership with NBC4 and the Council of Governments. Its phenomenal success there encouraged the Freddie Mac Foundation to expand the program nationwide.

Wednesday's Child is now shown in six cities: DC, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Atlanta. Wednesday's Child airs in New York on Wednesdays at about 5:20 p.m. and on Sunday Weekend Today in New York.

The results have been outstanding. Over the past eight years, more than 250 children have been placed in permanent, loving homes, giving them a chance for a brighter future. And over 7500 viewer inquiries have been generated from people interested in becoming foster care and adoptive parents.

In New York, Wednesday's Child is hosted by WNBC's Janice Huff.
