Katy Tur

Katy Tur joined NBC New York as a General Assignment Reporter in August 2009.

During her time at NBC New York, Tur has covered everything from the Brooklyn and Queens Tornadoes, and the Time Square Bomb plot, to offbeat local stories like the Brooklyn band behind “Auto-Tune the News” and the New York man who after 1,152 continuous days at sea, came home to meet his 2 year old son for the first time.

Before starting at NBC New York, Tur was a digital journalist for The Weather Channel, where she chased tornadoes across 10 states and covered major national news events like the BP Gulf Oil Spill in Louisiana and The 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. As a digital journalist, Tur shot, edited, and reported all of her own stories.

Prior to joining NBC, Tur was a local reporter in New York City at both WPIX and News 12 Brooklyn.

In 2009 Tur received AP’s Best Spot News Award for her coverage of the March 2008 Crane Collapse on the Upper East Side.

Tur spent her entire life surrounded by news. Her parents were helicopter news reporters in Los Angeles who made national names for themselves after covering the L.A. riots and shooting the infamous “Reginald Denny Beating”.

Tur graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara with a B.A. in Philosophy.
