Utah Student Dies After Fall from Ski Lift

Woman may have been suffering a medical episode when she plunged about 30 feet from her chair.

A 19-year-old University of Utah student died Sunday after plunging from a ski lift on a beginner’s slope at a Park City resort.

The woman may have been suffering a medical episode when she fell about 30 feet from her chair, Canyons Ski Resort spokesman Steve Pastorino told The Associated Press.

Ski patrol workers arrived on the scene within a minute of the fall to give first aid, though the woman was pronounced dead about two hours later, Pastorino told the AP.

It is unclear whether the student was using the lift’s safety bar.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported that police are withholding the woman’s name pending family notification and her family lives out of state.
