Underground With Their Pants Down

NYC's 8th annual No Pants! Subway Ride draws 1,200

No, it wasn't your imagination. Pants were in short supply along four lines of the New York City subway system on Saturday.

The No Pants! Subway Ride, organized by Improv Everywhere each January, is a chance for New Yorkers to ride the rails unencumbered by the burden of jeans, slacks or trousers.

From its humble beginnings in 2002 when only seven people partook, the event has grown, this year drawing more than 1,200 partici-pants.

The mob split themselves up into groups of roughly 300 to board the 1, E, R and 6 lines, with pants-free riders gradually taking over each car on a train.

But the good times aren't limited to the Five Boroughs. Hundreds of people in 21 other cities across 8 other countries also recognized the day with a pantsless ride on their local subway, light rail or bus.
