Patent Filed for Vibrating Tattoos Linked to Phones: Report

"The magnetic field may cause vibration of one short pulse, multiple short pulses, few long pulses... strong pulses, weak pulses and so on," filing states

Your tattoo is ringing.

Finnish phone company Nokia has filed a patent for a new technology that could one day alert inked up customers when they’re receiving text messages and phone calls.

The idea is to tattoo, stamp or spray "ferromagnetic" material on the skin that has been paired with a mobile device, BBC News reported.

According to Unwiredview.com, the special tattoo ink material would be exposed to high temperatures to demagnetize it before it’s applied. The tattoo could then be magnetized again to pair with a phone.

"The magnetic field may cause vibration of one short pulse, multiple short pulses, few long pulses... strong pulses, weak pulses and so on," a filing to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states.

Cambridge-based Zoran Radivojevic is listed in the patent filing as the lead inventor of the technology, though it’s unclear if Nokia plans to bring it to market, according to reports.
