A western Pennsylvania woman who impersonated a rodeo star and set up a sham company to obtain hundreds of cell phones has been sentenced to five years of probation and 15 months of home detention.
Authorities say Susan Rowan, 40, of Vanderbilt, also hoped to meet men by pretending to be world champion barrel racer Sherry Cervi. The town is about 40 miles south of Pittsburgh.
Prosecutors wanted jail time, but Judge David Cercone says taxpayers won't have to foot the bills now, and Rowan can work on repaying $156,000 to Sprint and $8,000 to a saddle maker.
Rowan apologized for the scams.
Cervi, an Arizona native, is a two-time world champion racer and 11-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier, according to published reports.
