Merced County Sheriff's Department

Wednesday was supposed to be the happiest day of Manuel Victor Guzman's life. It still may be.

The 29-year-old convicted burglar was given a four-hour pass from Merced County Jail so he could get married on Wednesday. He never got hitched, and he never returned to jail, the Merced Sun-Star reported:

"(His fiance) said he didn't show up for the wedding," sheriff’s spokesman Tom MacKenzie told the newspaper. "She has no idea where he is."

Officials said they are treating his failure to return to jail as an escape, the Merced Sun-Star reported.

Anyone with information on Guzman can contact authorities at 209-385-7444.
