Infamous Church Announces Picket of Jobs' Funeral – Via iPhone

Twisted church doesn't grasp irony

Westboro Baptist Church, the Kansas-based congregation infamous for picketing the burials of slain soldiers, said it will demonstrate at Apple founder Steve Jobs' funeral - and made the announcement using an iPhone.

Margie Phelps, daughter of pastor Fred Phelps, tweeted that the church will attend Jobs' so far unannounced funeral. Apparently unaware of the irony, Phelps used an iPhone to issue the Twitter message, reported Web pro News.

"Westboro will picket his funeral," Phelps tweeted. "He had a huge platform; gave God no glory & taught sin."

The Topeka-based, 70-member church has raised the ire of reasonable people everywhere, carrying signs that claim God hates gay people and somehow relating that stance to slain Marines and now Jobs. Earlier this year, the United States Supreme Court upheld their right to protest at the 2006 funeral of Marine Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, who was killed in Iraq. His father sued the church for defamation and infliction of emotional distress.

A jury awarded Snyder's family $10 million, in a case that was upheld on appeal before it was struck down by the nation's highest court. The lone dissent came from Justice Samuel Alito, who said, "Our profound national commitment to free and open debate is not a license for the vicious verbal assault that occurred in this case."
