“I think it’s going to be real important for me to get off the stage,” Bush said. “

President Bush said Monday that he is looking forward to stepping out of the bright spotlight of the presidency.

“I'd like to live life without the limelight for a while,” Bush said in the first part of an interview with ABC aired on “Good Morning America.”

Bush has repeatedly insisted that a smooth transition between his administration and the incoming administration of President-elect Barack Obama is a top priority for his final months in office and said Monday that it will be important for him to “get off the stage.”

“I think it’s going to be real important for me to get off the stage,” Bush said. “We got a new man coming on the stage; I wish him all the very best. And I don't want to be out there critiquing him his every move.”

The president echoed his wish to step out of the limelight last week saying, “frankly, I'm not going to miss the limelight all that much.”

“It's been a fabulous experience to be the president,” he said. “But it will be nice to see the Klieg lights shift somewhere else.”

First Lady Laura Bush shared similar sentiments during an appearance Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” saying she looks forward to a post-presidency “afterlife.”

  • jry160 Tuesday, Dec 2 at 7:11 AM FLAG COMMENT Now where have I heard this before? Thanks for pointing out my oblivious flaws. I'm glad that I could give you someone to feel superior to. My bad typing and grammar skills aside does not negate the fact that Bush is America's worst president. I noticed no one has commented on the truth of this fact.
  • Sal Monday, Dec 1 at 9:12 PM FLAG COMMENT Hi jry160 - May I suggest spell-check, or at least one or two English classes?
  • jry160 Monday, Dec 1 at 2:05 PM FLAG COMMENT Chris, I suppose you never have made a typo in your life? Oh to be as perfect as you think you are. For your information, I have a master's degree in Nursing. So I have had an English class or two. What's your education level? These blogs are not meant for attacking people. Thanks for your input. Did I misspell anything? I sure you’ll let me know.
