The fiercest competition in the gym was for second place behind the American women, who put on a show. Gabby Douglas, the 2012 all-around individual champion nailed a 15.766 on bars that was only topped by specialist Madison Kocian’s sizzling 15.933.

The Americans finished on floor, where New Jersey's Laurie Hernandez put up the competition's best score, only to be topped Aly Raisman and Biles in order.

Over the weekend, New Jersey native Carli Lloyd propelled Team USA to a 1-0 win over France in Olympic action. Lloyd, who is from Delran and went to Rutgers, was the hero of the 2015 Women’s World Cup Final when she scored a hat trick against Japan. She also has game-winning goals in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics to her name.

The U.S., defending gold medalists, had already qualified for the knockout round with two wins earlier in the tournament, and will still top their group, so the game wasn't a must-win. But the team will be disappointed they didn't pull out the win after coming back from a 1-0 deficit and controlling the game up until stoppage time in the second half.
