Papelbon Calls Manny a “Cancer”

What pitcher doesn’t want the biggest bat in the game on his team, pulling out big wins? It’s pretty easy to see that Red Sox closer Jonathon Papelbon liked at least that about Manny Ramirez, but there were a few other little issues that were dragging him and the team down.

Well, maybe not so small as he called Manny a cancer. But don’t worry, Papelbon has moved on from that world.

“It just takes one guy to bring an entire team down, and that’s exactly what was happening,” Papelbon told Esquire. “Once we saw that, we weren’t afraid to get rid of him. It’s like cancer. That’s what he was. Cancer. He had to go. It (stunk), but that was the only scenario that was going to work. That was it for us…..”

“He was on a different train!” Papelbon said of Ramirez. “And you saw what happened with that. We got rid of him, and we moved on without him.”

Really, is that why you had the chance to say, “we’ve moved on” you went on an extended rant to a guy standing there with an audio recorder? Your comments sound a lot more like a guy who says he’s over his last girlfriend then talks about her all night after a couple of beers than someone who has moved on.

My advice is the same one Sting gave us years ago: If you love someone, set them free.
