No A-Rod For First 2 Games of Yanks Series with Marlins

Creative taunters will have to hold their best calls for Game 3

Marlins fans have waited all season for the New York Yankees - not to see the high-priced line up - but to get their best shots in at Alex Rodriguez.

Looks like they will have to wait a few more days after A-Rod was scratched from the first two games of the series, which starts tonight at LandShark Stadium.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi, who is having a homecoming of sorts by returning to play the team that gave him his first head coaching gig, said he is resting Rodriguez because of "fatigue." We could think of another "f" word - fear.

A-Rod, who makes his home in Miami and graduated from Miami Westminster Christian, would be playing in front of the hometown crowd for the first time since hip surgery and his admission that he used performance-enhancing drugs to boost his numbers.

Since his comeback, the taunts for his transgressions from road fans have been rather tame, but picked up a little juice when Boston Red Sox chanted in unison, "You Used Steroids."

Surely, Miamians will be able to do better than that. A-Rod will be available to pinch hit, but Girardi would prefer to give him the two full days off and start him Sunday. Maybe the fans will be less likely to tear into the All Star on the religious day of rest.

Angel Berroa will start at third base in place of Rodriguez tonight.
