Parmelee, Beltran Power Yankees to 12-6 Win Over Angels

Chris Parmelee homered twice in his first start for the Yankees, Carlos Beltran added two more big hits to his huge series and New York's bats broke loose late in a 12-6 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night.

Jacoby Ellsbury homered and scored three times, Brett Gardner had three hits and two RBIs, and the Yankees extended their home winning streak against the Angels to eight games. New York, which has won 15 of the past 20 meetings overall, will go for a four-game sweep Thursday night.

Mike Trout homered in the ninth inning and had three hits and two RBIs for the Angels. Gregorio Petit hit a two-run shot and Jefry Marte also went deep for Los Angeles, which has dropped 14 of its last 17 at Yankee Stadium.

Trout and Albert Pujols smacked consecutive doubles in the fifth, both with a thud off the padded outfield wall, to give Los Angeles a 5-4 lead that got away from Jered Weaver (5-5) and an ineffective bullpen.

Anthony Swarzak (1-0) was the winner in his Yankees debut, tossing 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of a shaky Nathan Eovaldi. It was the right-hander's first major league victory since August 2014 with Minnesota against Kansas City.

Alex Rodriguez had an early RBI single for the Yankees, who tied it at 5 when Parmelee led off the sixth with his first major league home run since June 28 last year for Baltimore at Cleveland.

Weaver was lifted after walking Ellsbury on a close 3-2 pitch with one out. Gardner singled against left-hander Jose Alvarez, and Beltran lined an RBI double to left field.

Beltran also hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the eighth inning of the series opener Monday night, and a two-run shot in the first inning Tuesday.

Brian McCann added a two-run single off Cam Bedrosian to make it 8-5.

Parmelee, who doubled in the fourth for his first hit with the Yankees, golfed a two-run homer in the seventh off lefty Greg Mahle, and Beltran added a two-run homer of his own. The 39-year-old slugger, who leads the Yankees with 16 home runs, finished a triple shy of the cycle.

NOT JUST YET

Tim Lincecum wants another outing in the minors to sharpen up before making his Angels debut, manager Mike Scioscia said. So the two-time Cy Young Award winner will get his third start for Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday rather than face the Cleveland Indians. That means Lincecum's first game with Los Angeles could be June 17 or 18 in Oakland, just across the bay from where he starred for the San Francisco Giants. The right-hander, who signed with the Angels last month, is coming back from September hip surgery. Scioscia said LHP David Huff, who lasted 3 2/3 innings Tuesday and lost his spot start in place of injured Nick Tropeano, is a candidate to pitch Sunday.
