Mets Pitcher Chris Young May Need Season-Ending Surgery

Oft-Injured right-hander could also try lengthy rehab on his pitching shoulder

Mets right-hander Chris Young might need season-ending surgery after reinjuring his pitching shoulder.

Mets assistant general manager John Ricco said Monday Young hasn't decided whether to try lengthy rehabilitation or to have an operation to repair a tear in his anterior capsule. The same injury limited him to four starts last season.

Young underwent an MRI Sunday in New York and the diagnosis was made Monday by team medical director David Altchek.

Young, who is 1-0 with a 1.88 ERA in four starts, was scheduled to start Saturday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers but had trouble warming up before the game. The team decided to put him on the disabled list, retroactive to May 2, for the second time this season.
