Fortune Smiles on the Mets For One Night At Least

A win and an injury-free car accident for the Mets

With the way the Mets' season has been going, it wouldn't come as much of a surprise to hear that Johan Santana would miss his next start after cutting himself shaving or that Gary Sheffield would miss a game after getting stuck in a Citi Field elevator. The injuries and misfortunes have reached ridiculous levels which the team and its fans would probably laugh about if they weren't so busy crying.

They can laugh on Tuesday morning, however. The new look Mets pounded out 14 hits and got strong pitching from Tim Redding and Brian Stokes to beat the Cardinals 6-4 on Monday night. Even better, one of their players got through a car accident unscathed

Shocking, right? Jose Reyes was on his way to a doctor's appointment in Manhattan when the car he and trainer Ray Ramirez were riding in was rear-ended by a fire truck. In a sign that the fates decided the Mets have had enough suffering for a little while, no one was hurt and Reyes continued on to the doctor without further difficulty.

If the karmic balance of the Mets universe has really shifted, Reyes' rehab schedule will pick up the pace a little bit. He swung a bat over the weekend for the first time since going on the disabled list, but still hasn't been able to run. He also said that he's still feeling pain while doing everyday activities which isn't particularly promising for a quick return.

Maybe the car accident knocked something into place?
