Jets Trounce Raiders 38-0

Jets blast-off on Oakland at Coliseum

Mark Sanchez shook off the worst start of his young career by running for one touchdown and throwing for another, fellow rookie Shonn Greene ran for 144 yards and two scores and the New York Jets snapped a three-game losing streak by beating the Oakland Raiders 38-0 on Sunday.

After throwing two interceptions in the first two quarters, Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell took a seat in an embarrassing loss.

In the second quarter after hearing a cascade of boos from a small and impatient Coliseum crowd, Russell was pulled from the game. Back-up Bruce Gradkowski entered after Russell had posted a 31.1 quarterback rating and the Jets were leading 21-0.

The Jets scored first half touchdowns on runs by Thomas Jones (1-yard at 12:54 first quarter), Mark Sanchez (3-yard at 4:20 first quarter) and Shonn Greene (8-yard at 5:51 second quarter) before Jay Feeley added a 39-yard field goal with two seconds left before halftime to make it 24-0.

Gradkowski offered a slight spark before fumbling on a scramble in the third quarter that lead to a 35-yard Sanchez to David Clowney touchdown pass. Greene added a 33-yard rushing touchdown at 6:30 in the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on the shutout victory.
