Former Miami Dolphin Davone Bess was arrested for battery on a law enforcement officer after a bizarre confrontation at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport early Friday, police and jail records showed.

Bess, 28, was booked into the Broward County Jail and later released. It was unknown whether he has an attorney.

The charges include simple assault on an officer, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer without violence, according to a Broward Sheriff's Office arrest report.

Bess, who left jail carrying a Bob Marley bag, laughed and called the incident a misunderstanding, and repeatedly said the words "rastafari" and "one love."

According to the report, Bess was acting irrationally and was dancing and singing as his pants repeatedly fell down. But deputies say that's not why he was arrested.

"You can dance and sing, as long as you're civil, all you want," said Broward Sheriff's Cpt. Roy Liddicott. "It was his actions after that that led to his arrest."

When an officer approached Bess and asked if he was all right, Bess didn't respond. He then grabbed a cup of coffee that didn't belong to him and squeezed it, causing the hot liquid to spill on the officer's uniform, the report said.

Bess took a fighting stance and was struck in the leg with a police baton by the officer, which had no effect, the report said.

Bess then took off his shirt and took up the fighting stance and refused to get on the ground, the report said.

When backup arrived, Bess finally complied and was taken into custody.

"Bess appeared to be under the influence of an unknown narcotic due to his irrational behavior," the officer noted in the report. "He appeared to be looking through me when I was talking to him."

Bess, a wide receiver, spent five seasons with the Dolphins before joining the Cleveland Browns for the 2013 season.

Bess was placed on the non-football injury list in December, two games before Cleveland's season ended, after a questionable photo of him lighting a cigarette appeared online, NBC Sports reported.

And on Thursday, Bess tweeted out another photo that appeared to show marijuana, according to Sports Illustrated.

The Browns confirmed Thursday they're looking into the photo.
