The weapons possession case against former New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress has been adjourned until September.

Burress made a very brief appearance in court on today. The judge adjourned the case until September 23.

The 31-year-old, 6-foot-5-inch Burress shot himself in the thigh with an unlicensed gun on Nov. 29 while in a Manhattan nightclub. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and faces up to 3 1/2 years in prison.

Burress has pleaded not guilty and is free on $100,000 bail.

Burress caught the game-winning touchdown for the Giants the 2008 Super Bowl XLII. The team released him on April 3.

The Jets, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears are all rumored to be interested in signing the free agent wide receiver if his legal troubles don't keep him off the field.
