Democrat Andrew Cuomo is being pushed hard by the influential Democratic Rural Conference to run for governor, despite his refusal so far to commit to the race.

The group created as a voice for upstate Democrats gave Cuomo his first political win Saturday and made it clear Democrats assume he's running.

The one-term attorney general has refused to say if he will run for governor while staging governor-sized fundraisers. He has refused to comment on Albany issues including the fiscal crisis, saying he's not a candidate yet, while Republicans have mostly targeted each other in a fight for the GOP nomination.

No other Democrat was considered in Saturday's straw vote.
