New York Sen. Charles Schumer said the White House plans to nominate the judge who sent Wall Street swindler Bernard Madoff to prison to a prestigious appeals court panel.
Schumer said in a statement Wednesday that his office told the White House that Judge Denny Chin "would be an outstanding choice" for a 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals appointment in Manhattan.
One of the four openings on the appeals court was created when Judge Sonia Sotomayor was elevated to the U.S. Supreme Court. She heard her first case Wednesday.
Chin earlier this summer sentenced Madoff to 150 years in prison for cheating thousands of people out of billions of dollars.
