Police are looking for a suspect who crawled through a woman's window early Monday and raped her at knifepoint as she lay in bed with her 7-year-old daughter beside her.
Authorities say the suspect climbed up the fire escape and into the 42-year-old victim's Mulberry Street home at around 3:30 a.m. She told police the man showed a knife, told her to be quiet and raped her.
Police said the child wasn't hurt.
The victim told police the suspect left through the front door after the attack.
She was taken to the hospital.
Elaine Dalessandro grew up nearby on Mulberry Street and has relatives in the building where the alleged attack happened. She said she couldn't figure out how the intruder made his way into the back courtyard where the fire escape is because the courtyard is usually locked.
"It's too close to home for me, I have a child and I live in this building," she said at a nearby building. "It's very scary."
