Officer Shot in Hand in Las Vegas Ambush Attack: PD

A Las Vegas police officer was shot in the hand when a man armed with a semi-automatic handgun opened fire into his patrol car Sunday afternoon, police said.

The non-injured officer chased down the suspected shooter and took him into custody without further incident after the 12:12 p.m. shooting in the southeast part of the city, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The injured officer was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The shooting comes less than two weeks after another American police officer was shot in an ambush attack. Deputy Darren H. Goforth, of the Harris County Sheriff's Office in Texas, was fatally shot on Friday, Aug. 28th while he was pumping gas into his patrol car.

In Sunday's incident, the suspected shooter reached into the patrol car while it was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Nellis Boulevard, according to police.

The suspect's gun was recovered, and he was arrested without police firing any weapons, the LVMPD said.
