Identical Female Triplets Start New Year at Home

For Brad and Stephanie Harris, Christmas came a few days late when their identical triplets were discharged from a Houston hospital Monday.

"We've been waiting for this day since the girls were born," Stephanie Harris said. "While I'm a little nervous to have them all at home at once, I'm so happy at the same time."

The rare female identical triplets — Addison, Kinsley and Savannah — were born Dec. 1 via cesarean section at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital, according to NBC News. All weighed between 3 and 3.8 pounds at birth.

The girls spent the next five weeks in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit, a step that almost always accompanies the birth of multiple children. They headed home Monday afternoon.

"I'm going to be outnumbered now," Brad Harris said at a news conference. "It's all worth it to have our girls healthy and on their way home."

The odds of delivering identical triplets can range from one in 60,000 to one in two million.

"At first, we were told we were having twins," Stephanie Harris said. "I was shocked and still trying to get over learning we were having twins when we got news of triplets."

Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital officials say the girls were the first set of identical triplets delivered there since the hospital was established in 1963.
