Hair Traps Woman in Rollover Crash

A woman's long hair complicated her rescue after a rollover on I-805 in San Diego

San Diego firefighters struggled to rescue a rollover crash victim because the woman was trapped by her long hair.

The woman was curled in the passenger seat of the blue Ford Focus after the vehicle flipped in a crash along northbound I-805 in Clairemont just before 3 a.m. Friday.

She was trapped in the car because her hair was rolled underneath the vehicle.

Crews with San Diego Fire-Rescue had to stabilize the vehicle and lift the door up off the ground in order to get the woman out of the car and transport her to a hospital.

No amount of training can prepare firefighters for every scenario according to Battalion Chief Grace Yamane.

“These rescues are not routine,” she said.

Once the vehicle was lifted, firefighters pulled the woman out of the car and put her into a waiting ambulance.
