Google Unveils New Logo

Company explains new sans serif logo will be easier to see across platforms

Google unveiled changes to the main and icon corporate logos on Tuesday.

The company showed off the largely subtle changes via an animated "Doodle" on the homepage and an evolutionary video posted to YouTube.

The main logo now has more pronounced lettering, while the icon, formerly a lowercase g, is now a rainbow colored capital G.

In a blog post, the company explained the new logos are easier to see across different platforms and on the smallest of screens. A new "Google mic" element will "help you identify and interact with Google whether you're talking, tapping or typing."

According to Fast Company, the logo change, which uses a sans serif typeface that Google created, is its "biggest update in 16 years."
