FedEx Worker Falls Asleep in Plane, Wakes Up in Texas

FedEx Flight 1459 left Memphis just after 4 a.m. Friday

A FedEx worker fell asleep in the loading area of the plane in Memphis Friday morning and ended up on an early-morning flight to Texas, NBC News reported.

The ground crew member, who wasn't identified, reportedly woke up mid-flight and knocked on the cabin door. According to NBC affiliate KCBD, the employee works two jobs and was overcome with exhaustion.

The crew was able to communicate with the worker, and directed him to sit in a jump seat in the cargo hold for landing, said Kelly Campbell, director of Preston Smith International Airport in Lubbock, Texas.

Airport police responded to the plane after it touched down around 5:30 a.m., the city of Lubbock said in a statement. They determined that the worker hadn't meant any harm, and so was not arrested. He was instead released to local FedEx officials.
