Ernesto Weakens, Tropical Depression 7 Moves Through Atlantic

New tropical depression could become next tropical storm

Ernesto continued to weaken over the mountains of Mexico Friday as a new depression developed out in the Atlantic, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

In the center's last update on the storm before it dissipated Friday, Ernesto had maximum sustained winds of 25 mph as it moved west at 15 mph and was located about 215 miles west southwest of Veracruz, Mexico.

Meanwhile, at 11 p.m.Tropical Depression 7 continued moving west at 24 mph about 365 miles east of Barbados. The depression had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, but some strengthening is possible over the next day, the National Hurricane Center said.

A tropical storm watch was in effect for Barbados, Guadeloupe and Martinique, Dominica, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Tropical storms conditions are possible in those areas Saturday and Saturday night, the National Hurricane Center forecast.

The tropical depression could turn into a tropical storm before it reaches the Windward Islands Saturday, forecasters said.
