Christie and Paul Dispute Could Foretell 2016 Showdown

A recent public spat between New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul may be a preview of the contentious battle for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, NBC News reported. The men have traded personal insults and harsh words in the media, which began last week when Christie – regarded as a top contender for the 2016 GOP nomination – criticized Paul's brand of Republican libertarianism a "very dangerous" trend for the party. Mandela's Health Improves as World Fetes His 95th

Nelson Mandela spent his 95th birthday and "Mandela Day" in a South African hospital as his condition was "steadily improving," the South African government announced Thursday. One of Mandela's daughters said that he had made "dramatic progress" and that she expected him to be released from the hospital "anytime soon." Mandela's birthday, July 18, was proclaimed "Nelson Mandela International Day" by the United Nations in 2009 – an idea inspired by Mandela himself in a speech he gave in London on his 90th birthday. The current South African president, Jacob Zuma, wished Mandela a "joyous 95th birthday" in a statement. The Mandela family plans to gather by his hospital bedside for a traditional birthday lunch, while South Africa and scores of his admirers around the world plan a day of non-stop events, big and small.
