Police Fired No Shots During Unrest In Ferguson: Chief

No shots were fired by police during violent protests that erupted in Ferguson, Missouri, on Monday night, St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said. The announcement that the grand jury in Missouri has declined to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of unarmed black teen Michael Brown, sparked protests across the country. Police reported instances of looting, bottles thrown at officers, fires and gunshots in Ferguson, which was rocked by demonstrations following the Aug. 9 shooting. Belmar said 29 people have been arrested so far. Brown's family issued a statement saying they are "profoundly disappointed that the killer of our child will not face the consequence of his actions." They were joined by President Barack Obama and state and local officials in asking that protests remain peaceful. “We are a nation built on the rule of law, so we have to accept this decision was the grand jury’s to make,” Obama said. Wilson thanked his supporters in a statement issued by his attorney, and said he followed his training and the law during the incident.Check back for updates on this breaking news story.
