Two teens were killed and three others were injured in a pickup truck acccident early Sunday morning, New York State police said.
Vincent Peluso, the 19-year-old driver, was traveling with four passengers in his Ford F-350 pickup truck shortly after 2:09 a.m. when he drove off the runway and hit a utility pole near Route 6 in Slate Hill, police said. All five occupants were ejected from the vehicle.
A rear-seat passenger, 19-year old Jared Santillo, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Peluso and the other three passengers were taken to Orange Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Two of the passengers were treated for broken bones and released, while the third passenger sustained internal injuries and was admitted to the hospital in serious condition, authorities said.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the truck was driving too fast to properly turn a curve in the roadway, according to authorities. Wet road conditions were also a contributing factor.
The accident remains under investigation.
