Suffolk County police arrested a man Friday night after they say he pointed a green laser device at both an aircraft and the responding police chopper.

Police were notified by the FAA that a plane had been targeted by a laser on the ground before 10 p.m Friday.

The police helicopter unit responded and was also targeted as it approached the airspace. The officers driving the helicopter were able to locate the specific address where the laser was coming from.

David Smith, 21, of Saint James was charged with obstructing government administration in the second degree. The case was also referred to the Port Authority Terrorism Task Force, who may pursue additional charges.

It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer.
