Police Fatally Shoot Knife-Wielding Man in Queens

The shooting happened on 144th Terrace in Springfield Gardens, and the suspect later died in the hospital

A knife-wielding man was shot  by police in Queens Friday afternoon, and later died at the hospital, police said.

Officers were responding to a call of an emotionally disturbed man holding a knife to his neck inside a home at 165-43 144th Terrace in Springfield Gardens.
 
When they arrived, police say they ordered the man to drop the knife several times, but he refused.
 
He began walking towards an officer while holding the knife in the air, and the responding officer shot the male in the shoulder.
 
The man, who has not been identified, was taken to Jamaica Hospital where he later died.
 
The officer was removed to North Manhasset Medical Center for tinnitus.
 
The investigation is ongoing.
