Man Admits Dumping Body in LI Woodland: Police

The body was discovered Wednesday in a pine barrens in Manorville.

Police say a man has admitted leaving his girlfriend's body in a Long Island woodland after she died of a drug overdose.

The body was discovered Wednesday in a pine barrens in Manorville, a town whose secluded forest trails have been used several times in the past as a dumping ground for dead bodies.

Police later identified the woman as Pura Simancas, of Central Islip.

Newsday reports that her boyfriend, Matthew Kraus, was arraigned Friday on a misdemeanor charge of disposing a body without a permit.

Kraus told police he and Simancas were doing heroin and prescription drugs with friends when she died. He said the group panicked and took her body into the woods in late February.

Officials have yet to confirm the cause of death.
