A 48-year-old man has been arrested for a hit and run accident that left one man dead and another injured on Long Island, police said.

Authorities say Jose Sorto was the driver of a car that struck a 36-year-old man and his older brother shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning as they tried to cross Jerusalem Avenue in Uniondale. Sorto did not stop, police said.

The 36-year-old was pronounced dead at a hospital, and his 49-year-old brother is in stable condition with a head injury. Their names have not been released.

Sorto, a resident of East Meadow, has been charged with two counts of leaving the scene of an incident. He was arraigned Sunday.
