Police say Carlos Armando Ixpec-Chitay was involved in a fatal hit and run accident on July 9 in Southampton.
Police say they have identified the driver in a hit-run accident that killed a nun as she walked on Long Island.
Southampton Town police said Friday that Carlos Armando Ixpec-Chitay is wanted for leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
Sister Jacqueline Walsh of Syosset was found lying next to a road July 9 in Water Mill. She was there on a retreat with other nuns from the Sisters of Mercy.
Detectives found a car with front end damage about a half-mile away.
Police declined to say how they concluded the 30-year-old Ixpec-Chitay was the driver. They didn't release an address for him but say he frequents Water Mill and Riverhead.
A possible Riverhead phone number for him is disconnected.
Police are asking anyone with information to call 631-702-2230.
