Sheriff: New York City Fraudsters Swindled Lake County Apple Stores

Six people now face charges after making fraudulent purchases from the Apple store in Deer Park, police say

Authorities on Monday announced charges against six people from New York City who allegedly attempted to make purchases with stolen identities and counterfeit credit cards at Apple stores throughout the Chicago area.

After Lake County authorities "obtained information" on the "organized criminal enterprise" from New York, detectives from the sheriff's department increased patrols and surveillance at the Apple Store in Deer Park, the department announced in a press release.

Nicole E. Cannon, 21, of Manhattan was charged with burglary, possession of a counterfeit credit card, use of a counterfeit credit card, unlawful use of a fraudulent ID to commit theft, identity theft and forgery. She is being held at the Lake County Jail in lieu of $125,000 bail. Cannon is due in court on Aug. 17.

Gisselle Diaz, 41, of Queens was charged with retail theft, identity theft and burglary. She is being held at the Lake County Jail in lieu of $75,000. Diaz is due in court July 28.

Corbett Ortiz, 26, of Manhattan was charged with burglary, possession of a counterfeit credit card, unlawful use of a fraudulent ID to commit theft, identity theft and forgery. He is being held at Lake County Jail without bail. Ortiz is due in court July 25.

Quintin Ortiz, 18, of the Bronx was charged with burglary, possession of a counterfeit credit card, unlawful use of a fraudulent ID to commit theft, identify theft and forgery. He is being held at the Lake County Jail without bail. Ortiz is due in court July 25.

Melinda Aquino, 21, of the Bronx was charged with burglary, possession of a counterfeit credit card, unlawful use of a fraudulent ID to commit theft and identity theft. She is being held at the Lake County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail. Aquino is due in court July 26.

Frank Aulet, 20, of the Bronx was charged with possession of a counterfeit credit card, possession of a fraudulent ID to commit theft and identity theft. He is being held at the Lake County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail. Aulet is due in court July 26.
