Injured Seal Pup Rescued After Washing Up on Suffolk County's Smith Point Beach

An adorable seal pup prompted multiple 911 calls on Long Island Monday.

The injured sand-colored pup was spotted on Smith Point Beach, Fire Island, on Monday about 8:30 a.m.

The authorities said they received a number of 911 calls from concerned locals, and sent the Suffolk County Parks Rangers and a police unit to the beach.

Video showed the pup basking in the sun and rolling around in the sand.

The Riverhead Foundation, which works in marine conservation, was contacted and took the seal to its facility, authorities said.

They said it was common for seal pups to be abandoned by their mothers at this time of the year.
